Nguyen Van Oai is a social activist and engineer. Oai is a member of the Most Holy Redeemer Congregation(mlfoe) and Yen Ha Parish(frontline). In June, 2011, he participated in and reported on the anti-China protests (mlfoe). He received training on citizen journalism by theVietnam Redemptorist News (mlfoe). He is also an activist for factory workers’ rights. (TNCG)
Oai was arrested on July 30th, 2011(frontline, hrw) along with Dang Xuan Dieu and Ho Duc Hoa (frontline, hrw) at Tan Son Nhat airport in HCM city.
Vietnamese police raided his home on August 3rd, 2011. He is currently detained at the B14 Detention Centre in Thanh Tri, Hanoi (hrw)
