Nguyen Van Duyet is a 32-year-old (born September 14, 1980) blogger and social activist. Duyet is the President of the Association of Catholic Workers of Vinh in Hanoi and has attended courses in citizen journalism organized by Vietnam Redemptorist News and regularly writes for the media network, recently covering the trial of legal scholar Cu Huy Ha Vu in April 2011 [1]. Duyet was a writer and contributor for Vietnam Redemptorist News and News without Borders (Bao Khong Le) before his arrest. Duyet was arrested on August 7, 2011 and charged with Article 79 of the penal code “Attempting to overthrow the government” [1].

The arrest has received condemnations from the international community and NGOs such as the Human Rights Watch [2] , Electronic Frontier Foundation [3], Committee to Project Journalist [4], Frontline Defenders [5], US House of Representatives H.R. 4846, UN Human Rights Council [7], and the International Bar Association [8].

A joint letter by nine international NGOs was sent to the government of Vietnam in March 12, 2012 requesting for the immediate release of Dang Xuan Dieu, Ho Duc Hoa, Nguyen Van Duyet, Nong Hung Anh and Paulus Le Van Son, and the dismissal of all charges [9]

30 tuổi người Công giáo, cử nhân tốt nghiệp ngành tin học, đạo đức, rất nhiệt thành với công việc chung, anh là trưởng Cộng đoàn Giuse Thợ thuộc cộng đoàn Vinh tại Hà Nội, tham gia biểu tình chống TQ, xét xử CHHV, đã đăng ký tham dự thi vào Đại Chủng Viện Vinh – Thanh nhưng bị bắt ngày 7/8/2011 tại Nghệ An [10].
